Dr. Beaumont is a native of Edgetts Landing, New Brunswick. She attended Dalhousie University from 2001-2004 studying Biology, before going to the University of Waterloo for Optometry. She graduated from the UW Doctor of Optometry program in 2008 with Honours. As part of her training, she completed an internship in ocular pathology and therapeutics at the Jack C. Montgomery VA Medical Centre in Muskogee, Oklahoma. Following graduation, Virginia practiced in Calgary, Alberta for 4 years before returning to The Maritimes. She started at Dr I.A. Mendleson and Associates in Optometry in 2013 moving to become one of the owners in 2017 and changing the name to Bay Optometry in 2019. She looks forward to a lifetime career serving the Hammonds Plains, St. Margaret's Bay , Upper Tantallon community.
Dr. Beaumont is a member of the Canadian Optometry Association (COA) and the Nova Scotia Association of Optometrists (NSAO).
Outside the office, Dr. Beaumont spends her time with her family. Her children, Jack and Nora, keep her busy exploring the parks and beaches of Nova Scotia.
Dr. Lord was born and raised in St. Margaret’s Bay Nova Scotia. She attended grade school in Hammonds Plains and Upper Tantallon and completed High school at Sir John A MacDonald. Following high school, she received her Bachelor of Science degree with Honours in Biology from Dalhousie University. Dr. Lord would stay at Dalhousie for a subsequent five years participating in teaching and research projects and concurrently completing a PhD in Biology, which she was awarded in 2013.
Following graduation, she packed her bags for Boston, Massachusetts to complete a unique and intensive Accelerated Doctor of Optometry Program at the New England College of Optometry. She earned her Doctor of Optometry degree in 2016. As a part of her training Dr. Lord completed internships in ocular disease, specialty contact lens fitting and pediatrics. For the next two years she would go on to work in a busy, medically focused practice in Upstate New York before deciding it was time to return home. Dr. Lord became an official partner at Bay Optometry in 2023.
She is a member of the Canadian Optometry Association and the Nova Scotia Association of Optometrists. Outside of the office Dr. Lord enjoys running, hiking, travelling and spending time with her friends and family particularly her niece and nephew Nell and Martin.
Dr. Nearing was born and raised in Halifax, Nova Scotia. She attended Oxford School and Saint Patrick’s High School. After high school, she attended Acadia University where she received her Bachelor of Science degree with a double major in Biology and Kinesiology.
She then graduated with Dean’s Honours from the University of Waterloo with her Doctor of Optometry degree in 2010. During her studies, she was awarded the Alcon Award in Ocular Physiology in 2007. As part of her training, Dr. Nearing completed an internship in ocular disease and therapeutics at the John Kenyon American Eye Institute.
Dr. Nearing is a member of the Canadian Association of Optometrists and the Nova Scotia Association of Optometrists. She actively participates in continuing education courses to remain current in on-going research and developments in the field of optometry. In her spare time, she enjoys playing squash, golfing, hiking, and travelling.
Originally from Truro, Nova Scotia, Dr. Sarah Thomson graduated from St. Francis Xavier University in 2012 with a Bachelor of Science with an Advanced Major in Chemistry. She then continued her studies at the New England College of Optometry in Boston, MA where she received her Doctorate of Optometry in 2016.
During her final year of training, Dr. Thomson completed two internships with a focus on ocular disease at both the University of Maryland Ophthalmology Clinic in Baltimore, MD, and the Veterans Affairs Hospital in Manchester, New Hampshire. She also completed an
internship in Miami, Florida focused on contact lenses and a primary care internship at the East Boston Community Health Center. Dr. Thomson is an active member of the Nova Scotia Association of Optometrists (NSAO), and the Canadian Association of Optometrists (CAO). She also serves as a member on the Continuing Education committee for the NSAO.
Dr. Thomson and her husband, Peter, live in Stillwater Lake with their two children, William and Norah, and their goldendoodle, Charlie. In her spare time, she enjoys reading, cooking, and spending time outdoors with her family.
Born and raised in Cape Breton, Nova Scotia, Danielle started her optical career when she moved to Edmonton, Alberta in 1999. She started as an Optometric Assistant and later attended Alberta Institute of Technology becoming a licensed optician in 2004. Danielle moved back to Nova Scotia is 2009 with her husband to raise their 2 beautiful girls, Ceili and Tara. Danielle is a staple in our Optometry clinics optical dispensary and is eager to help you with all of your eyewear needs.
Born and raised in Victoria, BC Teresa began her optical career as an Optometric Assistant in 2007 in Comox, BC and in 2016 became a licensed Optician. Teresa joined Bay Optometry in April 2022.
She enjoys assisting customers in making informed decisions for all eyewear needs, from finding the perfect frame to selecting the best lens option that compliments your lifestyle. During her off time, Teresa likes to tend to her ever growing houseplant collection and working towards achieving her long distance running goals.
Jocelyn entered the Optometry industry in 2017, and quickly knew it was the career path for her. She completed the Northern Alberta Institute of Technology Optician program and successfully passed the NACOR exam to became a licensed optician in 2022. Jocelyn joined Bay Optometry in the beginning of 2023, excited to be practicing in the community she grew up in. Jocelyn specializes in frame selection, proper fit, and best lens choice for whichever task the wearer is in need; finding the perfect balance between function and fashion. When she isn’t working, she loves to spend time with her daughter and son, whom have very busy schedules! Her spare time is spent reading, painting, and catching up with family and friends.
After being a patient at Bay Optometry for close to 10 years, Calli was excited to begin her job with the company in 2021 as an Optical Stylist. Working closely with Opticians and other coworkers, she quickly fell in love the with career and began the Eyeglasses Opticians Program at NAIT in 2022. Calli is currently in her last semester of the program and very soon will become a licensed optician! Calli has always loved to help people and enjoys making patients feel comfortable and confident making eyewear decisions every day. When she’s not at work you can find her listening to a True Crime podcast or spending time with her friends.
